Psych Club T-Shirt Sale to Benefit Two Charitable Causes

The Psychology Club at Chippewa Falls Senior HS is running an online t-shirt sale to benefit two very worthy causes. This means you can upgrade your psych-related wardrobe, look really clever, AND benefit some great projects all at once!

Proceeds from the sale will go towards

• the construction of a "barrier-free" playground at Southview Elementary, which will benefit students with mobility issues by creating a play area accessible to all children in our community
• the campaign to raise funds for a National Museum of Psychology, which would be the first of its kind, a museum specifically devoted to housing artifacts from psychology's history

The cost of the t-shirt is $15, and the campaign will run until September 23, 2016. T-shirts are expected to arrive to supporters around October 12th (date approximate).

Psych Club Kick-Off Meeting THIS Friday!

Psych Club will host its kick-off meeting for the 2016-17 school year on Friday, Sept 2! Psych Club meets monthly on the 1st Friday of each month, and anyone with an interest in psychology is welcome to join.

One of our first tasks will be to vote on a club t-shirt design for the year so we can place the order as soon as possible (and get our shirts by the time of the October monthly meeting). You can preview the design options below. Votes will be cast electronically, so please have your Chromebook or device with you during the meeting if you wish to vote. 

Because of the size of our group, I am hosting meetings during BOTH Lunch A and Lunch B. I'll set things up for a "drop in" style meeting where you arrive, complete the tasks you need to (e.g., signing in, getting info about upcoming events, voting on t-shirt designs, etc.), and then you can be on your way. I'm hoping that will ease congestion and allow everyone to participate!

There will also be door prize drawings held at 12:30 and 12:45, so plan to be present during at least one of those times if you want a chance to win fabulous psych stuff!

With school back in session, it's time to kick off the year in Psych Club. Our first meeting will be Friday, September 4th during Lunch B (in rm 136). Thereafter we'll continue to meet the first Friday of the month.

 Folks who ordered from afar can expect to get their t-shirts next week sometime. We have to sort, pack, and ship...but first we've got some club business to attend to (a Brain Food contest), so we'll probably be mailing out orders on Monday, October 8.

Brain Food Extra Credit

After completing the Orange Brain Surgery lab earlier this week, you have undoubtedly figured out that the best models of the brain are edible ones. So, our next Psych Club meeting will feature a celebration of delicious neuroanatomy through a "Brain Food" contest.
Current AP Psych students who participate will earn 5 points extra credit (computed in test category), as this will help them review important structures in the brain/nervous system.

The Rules:

• Entries must be edible representations of the brain or portions of the nervous system (e.g. neuron, synapse, brain stem, etc).
• Component parts must be accurately labeled.
• Entries will be judged during LUNCH A, so they must be delivered to room 136 no later than 12:15. You have to set up/complete registration for your entry during lunch (or have a friend do so), so please don't just leave your creation in my room in the morning an assume it will get set out.
• Winners will be announced and snacking will commence during our regular meeting time (Lunch B)!

Even if you do not wish to enter (and earn Extra Credit), you are welcome to join us for the meeting & eating. There is always plenty of food to go around.

Be sure to wear your new Psych Club t-shirt, too, since those will be distributed early next week!

First Psych Club Meeting Scheduled!

Psychology Club will be meeting FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd during Lunch B in room 136 (Mrs. Welle's room)! This is quicker than I had anticipated, but advisors for Lunch & Learn clubs met to put together the master schedule today and this is what we got...

Which is okay, because it means we can get out T-shirts ordered right away. :)

From here on out, Psychology Club meetings will be held the first Friday of the month (also during Lunch B in rm 136).

Butter Braid Sale Kick-off!

Wow. What an attractive-looking bunch! You really can't go wrong with a Piaget shirt. :)

Today's Psych Club meeting kicked-off our fundraiser for the May 17th Next to Normal trip.

If you missed the meeting, you also missed out on some samples of the delicious Butter Braids we are selling to earn some cha-ching for the trip. But here's the pertinent info if you still need it:

Sale ends December 3rd (our next Psych Club meeting) and completed order forms & money are due that day. The product, which is delivered FROZEN, will arrive after school in the cafeteria on December 17th. Make sure that you (or a confederate) are available to pick up your stuff and deliver it that day, since Mrs. Welle does not have that much freezer space and cannot store your stuff indefinitely.

You make $4.50 per item you sell, and anyone hoping to write out a check can make it payable to Chi-Hi when they place their order. If you sell enough, you'll be able to score a rockin' seat at the Next to Normal performance, so good luck!

T-Shirts Have Arrived!

Just in time for our Developmental Psych Unit!

Our 2010-11 Psych Club shirts arrived this afternoon, so you may pick them up at your leisure. These shirts will be excellent attire for tomorrow's viewing of the Piaget video we're watching in class.

Also, we have a Psych Club meeting coming up next week on Monday, November 1, during Lunch B. This would be another great time to sport your Piaget-wear, though the main purpose of the meeting is to distribute fundraising materials for the Butter Braid sale we will be doing to raise money for the Next to Normal trip on May 17th.

Psych Club Shirt Money Due Friday

Greetings, all! If you are one of the many Psych Club members who ordered this year's club T-shirt - featuring the one and only Jean Piaget - this is just a friendly reminder that your $15 is due on Friday.

I hope to place the order before the weekend so we can get the shirts in a couple of weeks, so don't delay!

Also, as you are likely aware, our next Psych Club meeting is this Friday. We have a number of items on the agenda, including:

• getting in place some fundraising plans for Next to Normal
• possibly setting a date for our first Movie Night of the year (needs to happen soon...)
• eating the Brain Food creations brought by our members

Psych Club Meeting Sept. 3

Today the Lunch & Learn advisors met to hash out schedules for this year's activities. Psych Club's scheduled monthly meeting time will be the first Friday of each month.

This means our first meeting is one week from today! Friday, Sept. 3, during Lunch B, in room 136. Wheeeeee!

On the agenda:

• Selecting a T-shirt design for this year and placing orders
• Determining interest in a trip to the Twin Cities to see Next to Normal on May 17
• Fundraising ideas for Next to Normal, if the club is interested

Friday's Psych Club Meeting

Disappointed that you missed the Psych Club meeting on Friday? You should be. We had a marvelous time making cutesy dragon optical illusions. We also snapped photos of ourselves wearing our fetching new Psych Club T-Shirts. Don't we look awesome!?

We also set the date for our first Movie Night of the year. Pending availability of space (which Mrs. Welle will check into on Monday), our Movie Night will be Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 PM. The tentative plan is to watch Memento, a film about a guy who is suffering from anterograde amnesia (yet is trying to solve his wife's murder. Tricky.). It will fit very nicely with what we'll be learning about in class at the time, since we'll be in the middle of a unit on learning & memory.

We will have to have signed parent permission slips for this one, since it is rated R. I'll get that information posted soon.

T-Shirts Have Been Ordered!

It's about time!

I've given up on those stragglers who have not paid for the shirts they signed up for. If you had payment in for your shirt as of today, you can expect to get one. If not, well....you snooze you lose.

The order is scheduled to come in by November 20th, which (conveniently) happens to be the date of our next Psych Club meeting! Oh boy! I can hardly wait to see us all decked out in our finest Freud-wear.

Psych Club Meeting Tomorrow!

Hey, Psychology Club members! Due to my absences last week (darn you, H1N1!), we were not able to hold our October meeting. This is a situation we must rectify, because I had some really cool plans for us, including making Brain Cupcakes!!! (See photo...)

Since I still have the supplies, we'll meet THIS FRIDAY instead. We'll do some brain trivia, make cupcakes, and hopefully plan some fundraisers so I don't have to keep paying for our supplies out of pocket...

Also, T-SHIRT MONEY NEEDS TO COME IN! I have a number of folks who haven't paid for their awesome club shirts, and I need to get it before I can place the order. I had originally said last week Friday was the deadline, but since I was out sick I'll take $ through tomorrow.

Psych Club T-Shirts

I've posted a preview widget so you can get a final look at what our Psych Club t-shirts will look like when you visit the blog. Money ($16 per shirt) and Orders for T-shirts will be due Friday, October 16th. Sign up in rm 136 and be sure to indicate your size.

October 16th is also our next Psychology Club meeting, and my current plan is to make some sort of food related to the brain...perhaps brain cupcakes?

Freudicon Wins! But details remain undecided...

For those of you unable to make it to the first official psych club meeting this year, a report on our progress.

Voting on T-shirt designs resulted in the selection of the "Freudicon" design depicted at left. However, at the close of the meeting, there were still some decisions left to be made.

There was considerable disagreement about the font choice for the lettering on the back of the shirt, which reads, "Psychology Club 2009-10".

Also, we voted on a color choice for the shirt, but following the meeting during my prep period I was able to adjust the image settings so the white space on Freud's head is no longer transparent... thus opening the possibility of using a darker color of shirt without distorting the image.

SO....in response to feedback from my 6th and 7th hour classes, I've come up with some new options for voting. I selected a font that I would argue is a happy medium, given the opinions expressed at the meeting. It's not simple block lettering (sort of funky), but also not so flashy as to be distracting.

Below are links to the new shirt color options. I'm including the color choice we voted on at the meeting in case there are those who wish to stick with it (despite the new options). At the bottom of this post you will find a poll where you can cast your vote for your favorite choice. The poll will close on Tuesday, September 22, so we can get the order rolling and get our shirts ASAP.

Each option would cost the same amount: $16.00 (assuming we can get an order or 25 shirts or more).

• "Light Blue" Freud (this was the choice made at the meeting before the image was fixed)

This friday during Lunch B the first Psychology Club meeting of the year will be held in rm 136. The most important item on the agenda: Club T-shirts! No self-respecting club in our school should be without a snappy t-shirt, and we in the Psych Club like to set the bar when it comes to academic apparel. This year will be no exception.
